Hanseatic City of Rostock
Rostock, Warnemünde & Rostock Heath – Every day holiday
All your holiday dreams will come true in one place; you’ll nd heavenly seas, untouched nature, and a city steeped in history. Whether you’re a sunbather or culture bu‑, looking for adventure or just want to enjoy a bit of everything, the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, seaside resort of Warnemünde and the Rostock heath, are the perfect places to get away from it all and soak in the experience.
The townscape of the Hanseatic city is characterised by the traditional brick Gothic architecture of the Hanseatic era. The city centre around the historic University Square, the old town of Rostock and the city harbour invite you to stroll and linger. In Rostock's museums, all visitors interested in culture can experience changing exhibitions, paintings, photographs and maritime history. The diverse gastronomic scene and numerous shopping offers round off every stay in Rostock.
White sandy beaches and whooshing Baltic waves, on the other hand, can be found in the seaside resort of Warnemünde, only 15 kilometres from the city centre. Enjoy the view over the unique coastline from the lighthouse of Warnemünde from a height of 31 metres. The kilometre-wide fine sandy beach invites you to sunbath, beach and water sports.
Cruise port with a charming Flair
Where large cruise liners lie at anchor beside idyllic captains’ houses and old fishing cutters, a very special atmosphere awaits cruise passengers and ship enthusiasts. From April till October you can enjoy the impressive view of sailing boats, tour boats and ferries passing by the giants of the ocean, as they set course for the Baltic Sea. The Warnemünder Woche, Hanse Sail Rostock and the Rostock Cruise Festival offer the appropriate cultural framework.
Rostock Heath - pure nature experience
Hardly any other German city has a larger city forest than Rostock. The Rostock Heath, which extends directly on the Baltic Sea coast from Markgrafenheide to the seaside resort of Graal-Müritz, measures 6,000 hectares. Once a hunting ground and timber reservoir for the construction of houses and ships, the Rostock Heath with its special and healthy climate is today a unique recreational area for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. A diverse and varied landscape with beech and pine forests, with wet bogs and sea sand. Cycle and hiking paths of 87 kilometres in length and 60 kilometres of bridle paths are perfect for individual tours. From time to time you can catch a glimpse of the sea and the beach, and marvel at centuries-old trees and wind-driven trees.
