At the „European Ferry Shipping Summit“held in Malmo/Sweden on the 19th and 20th of May 2022, the Port of Rostock was presented with the award of Ferry and RoRo Port of the Year. The Ferry Shipping Summit is an annual gathering of top executives from ferry and ro-ro shipping companies and ports which is held in different European port cities. The last port presented with this award was the Belgian port of Zeebrugge in 2019.
„We are very proud of this award from the European ferry and ro-ro industry. It is an expression of their appreciation of the commitment to infrastructure upgrades on the part of ROSTOCK PORT and its shareholders, but also and above all of the market work of all ferry and ro-ro shipping companies active in Rostock. At the same time the award motivates us to continue our commitment to the important port segment of ferry and ro-ro“, says Dr. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH.
The four ferry shipping companies operating to and from Rostock, Scandlines, Stena Line, TT-Line and Hansa, connect Denmark and Sweden with the biggest port in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern several times per day. „With regard to roll on/roll off traffic we thank the operators Finnlines, Transfennica and UPM for their trust and cooperation in connecting us with our partner ports in Finland. We also proudly accept the award as a tribute to and mark of appreciation for all protagonists, service providers and handling companies at the port of Rostock”, adds ROSTOCK PORT MD Jens Scharner. In 2021 the port of Rostock achieved a record-breaking result in wheeled cargo, i.e. ferry and ro-ro goods, with a handling result of 18 million tonnes (+2.7 million tonnes or +18 percent). The share of wheeled cargo in the overall handling at the port was 63 percent. Rostock is the fourth-largest German port and one of the major ferry and ro-ro ports in the Baltic.
