„As part of its function to provide and develop the infrastructure, ROSTOCK PORT will be upgrading an area of about 70,000 square metres from the port entrance to port basin A to make it suitable for all kinds of wheeled cargo“, announces Dr. Gernot Tesch, managing director of ROSTOCK PORT.
The newly created logistics areas close to the high-turnover ferry and ro-ro terminal will be operated by the renowned company Autolink Germany in the future. In order to connect the two areas, which are divided by the main port entrance and exit, ROSTOCK PORT is currently having an underpass built underneath the four-lane street.
The main objective of establishing this business here is to develop the port of Rostock into a multi-modal logistics hub, to achieve a greater real net output ratio by new logistics services, and to add to the offer portfolio.
Also, the new terminal areas will have an efficient direct railway connection that will assure eco-friendly transport by rail and further improve the competitiveness of the most important railway port on the German Baltic Sea coast. Thanks to the new building of berth 50, the transverse quay at port basin A with its two new ro-ro ramps, the largest ro-ro vessels operating in the Baltic Sea can be handled here.
„Thanks to our close cooperation with ROSTOCK PORT we have succeeded in jointly moving this project forward briskly. Thus DB Netz AG has created the infrastructure preconditions at short notice and unconventionally in order to be able to handle future traffic for our clients with high quality“, informs Renado Kropp, head of operation, timetable, sales and capacity management at DB Netz AG, Regional Unit East.
„ROSTOCK PORT continues to steadily develop its already very diversified business model and strives to add further, strong mainstays to that model. We are therefore very pleased to have won over Autolink Germany as the operator of the new logistics terminal after conducting an ITT“, says Dr. Gernot Tesch, managing director of ROSTOCK PORT.
Arnd Brockmüller, managing director of Autolink Germany GmbH, states: „From the point of view of Autolink, Rostock enjoys perfect hinterland connections by road and especially by rail. We have seen a steady shifting of automobile production towards the east, e.g. into the hinterland of Rostock. We are therefore glad to be able to set up the first German Autolink terminal in Rostock in addition to the existing terminals and branches in the Baltic Sea region (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Lithuania). Rostock is to become our hub for traffic to northern and eastern Europe.”
