ROSTOCK and HANKO join forces to strengthen the Baltic Sea route between the two ports

After an extensive technical preparation of maritime infrastructure works, Port of Hanko Ltd and ROSTOCK PORT GmbH have on January 21st, 2025, submitted a joint application for EU funding from the Connecting Europe Facility to further modernising the maritime dimension of the TEN-T, strengthening their successful long-term cooperation and improving the integrated Baltic Sea Link on Rostock – Hanko route.

The project aims at further improving the vital link, providing market-demanded maritime infrastructure, enabling the deployment of larger and highly sustainable ro-ro-vessels, making port handling processes much more efficient and increasing the intermodal transport capacity on one of the most important and the shortest sea route for Finnish foreign trade to and from Continental Europe.

The port of Hanko located on the southernmost peninsula of Finland and the port of Rostock offering high class intermodal connections all over Continental Europe are excellent locations for sustainable and multimodal logistic solutions for future needs of the trade and industry within the EU. First infrastructure works will already start in March 2025 and the entire project is being completed in June 2027. We are looking forward to the evaluation results and appreciate the opportunity to submit this project application with support of the Finnish and German Government.
